Senior Research Associate Biology

At Artica Therapeutics we are looking for a Senior Research Associate to strengthen our biology team.

The role

As Senior Research Associate at Artica you play an integral role in the biology functional team, working closely together with fellow team members. You progress our small molecule pipeline by contributing to the development of biochemical and cell-based assays and subsequent routine screening of compounds. In addition, you contribute to increased target and disease understanding by designing and performing biological and biochemical experiments.

Being a Senior Research Associate within the biology team, you are an expert in one or several techniques often used in our lab and can take a leading role in several aspects of the organization of our in-house laboratory facilities. You will report to the Head of Biology while taking guidance of (senior) research scientists in day-to-day operations. The team consists of 10 people, including research scientists and associates, and as a start-up company Artica has around 15 employees.

Responsibilities

  • Design, plan, perform and analyze experiments to develop, optimize and routinely run biological and biochemical assays to profile our small molecule inhibitors. Identify and efficiently solve/minimize technical problems in our assays;

  • Contribute to research goals by reading scientific literature, share and discuss ideas and aid in hypothesis generation and subsequently perform experiments to test such research hypotheses;

  • Keep timely and accurate records of experiments in the Electronic Lab Notebooks (ELN). Take full responsibility of protocol development of an assay, including its data collection, QC, including designing QC criteria, data storage, processing and representation within the ELN and compound management systems;

  • Pro-actively identify useful new assay technologies along with their pros/cons.

Requirements

  • A completed Laboratory Science (HLO) or Master degree in Life Sciences;

  • 4+ Years of work experience in an ambitious research environment;

  • Experience with drug discovery programs for small molecule inhibitors in an industrial setting is a plus;

  • Thorough understanding of, and broad experience with, biochemical and cell-based assays such as: mammalian cell culture, ELISA, Western blotting, FACS, immune fluorescence and generally multi-well colorimetric-/fluorescent binding or activity assays;

  • Ability to take a leading role in the management of the laboratory facilities, e.g.: procurement of equipment, maintenance and repairs, ordering of consumables, safety compliance, sample organization, etc.

  • Demonstrate a personal sense of urgency in getting good quality results and efficiency in planning, experiment execution and problem resolution;

  • Able to effectively collaborate in multidisciplinary teams where English is the working language;
